IRENE'S OBITUARY
Irene Hoff----83, Minot, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 in a Minot hospital.
Irene Viola Mason was born on June 24, 1936, a daughter of Niels and Bertha (Weisz) Mason in Cando, ND. She was raised and educated in Cando, where she graduated in 1954. Irene furthered her education by attending the Minot State Teachers College.
On September 6, 1955, Irene was united in marriage to Dwaine Hoff, whom she had met on a blind date. They made their home on the Harrington Ranch near Burlington until moving to Gilby ND in 1966. Irene worked as a farm laborer working in the beet and wild oat fields, along with the Gilby Café. She began working at the Gilby Post Office, prior to being transferred to the Grand Forks Air Force Base Post Office in Grand Forks, ND. In 1984, the family moved to Minot, where she worked at the Minot Post Office until her retirement in 1996.
Irene served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, going to the casino, and spending time with her family. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by: Husband of 63 years, Dwaine, Minot; Children: Gary (Svitlana) Hoff, Minot, Cherry (Richard) Kennedy, Hiram, Maine, Patricia (David) Helgeson, Minot, ND ,Dale (Tammy) Hoff, Cole Harbor, ND, Deann (Ronald) Yelton, Louisville, KY , Ricky (Shannon) Hoff, Minot; Twenty grandchildren: seventeen great-grandchildren: Sister: Sharron Smeltzer-Darling, Leeds, ND; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Irene was preceded in death by her father Niels, mother and step-father Bertha and Joe, brother Larry, and two sisters Judy Severtson and Geraldine Lang.
Visitation: Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 2 until 4 pm at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Funeral Service: Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10 am at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
