Bio: Obituary published in The Billings Gazette:~~~~~~~"Emanuel (Manny) Hartman, Jr., loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and companion passed away at St. Vincent Health Care on May 9, 2009, at the age of 82."Emanuel was born on August 14, 1926, in Killdeer, N.D. He was one of eight children born to Emanuel Hartman, Sr. and Catherine Fleck Hartman and was raised on the family farm near Fayette, N.D."Emanuel graduated from Killdeer High School in 1942 and was a student at Dickinson State Teachers College until drafted into the U. S. Army in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II and was discharged in 1946."While visiting his sister in California he met Barbara Marie Arnold. They were married on March 21, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. Barbara preceded him in death in 1994."Emanuel worked in the trucking industry the majority of his life, retiring from Hi Ball Trucking Company in 1988 after 24 years. He spent his remaining years snow birding between Montana and Arizona."Emanuel is survived by his 11 children, Joseph (Nicole) Hartman, Richard (Bonnie) Hartman, Ronald (JoAnn) Hartman, Judy Roller, Deborah (Frank) Bradley, Snorky, Emanuel III (Donna) Hartman, Kathryn (Randy) Waitman, Linda (Dale) Heinle, Michelle (Stan) Monson, Jeffrey (Leanne) Hartman and Kelly (Vincent) Castro; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; his long time companion Doris Waddell and daughters Sharon (Dave) Russell and Karen Waddell, as well as his brother, Frank (Mitzie) Hartman and sister, Ann Wittinger."He was preceeded in death by his granddaughter, Aubrey Marie Monson; his parents; three sisters, Tillie, Ida, and Katherine; and two brothers, Adolph and Tony."Emanuel loved to dance and part of his legacy was teaching his children as well. (Some got it, some didn't). Sundays were spent with him sitting on the steps playing his accordion followed by softball games where all were invited and all played. Our lives and hearts were filled by music and time together. Emanuel loved life and lived it to the fullest."He was active in the VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge and Elk's Lodge."
