Our family has lost a member of "The Greatest Generation". Verlinda Maria Bentson, our much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Silverado Assisted Livign Center at Aspen Park in Holladay, Utah with her children at her side. We know that she is enjoying her reunion with those who preceded her in death. She resided at 4148 South 2000 East in Holladay, Utah at the time of her death.
Verlinda was born March 28, 1919 in Alpena, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Andrew and Lydia Aisenbrey and a sister of Amandus "Percy", Alvin, Andrew, and Loretta Aisenbrey.
It was in the small town of Alpena, SD, where she met her sweetheart, Ben Russel Bentson. They were married in March 24, 1943. While Ben was overseas during World War II, she worked at a local bank in Alpena, SD.
Verlinda was very generous. She helped sponsor many friends and relatives in their quests for a college education. Verlinda and Ben relocated with General Electric to many places across the United States, including New York, Pennsylvania, California, and Ohio before settling in Holladay, Utah. Ben and Verlinda had three children: Russel Dean, Rise Dorrene, and Ronald Dee.
She worked in various jobs while in Salt Lake City, but her primary jobs were that of a Mother and a "Super-Grandma". She was one of the earliest members of Holladay United Church of Christ and Willow Creek Country Club. She also served as the treasurer of American Gold Star Mothers Utah Chapter.
Verlinda was an avid sports fan and enjoy watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their favorite activities. She loved the Utah Jazz and The University of Utah Utes.
Verlinda is survived by her daughter, Rise (Chuck) Argyle (Sandy, UT), son, Ronald D. Bentson (Salt Lake City, UT), grandchildren Piper (Trent) Butcher, Jason (Sheri) Argyle and her eight great-grandchildren: Jacy, Brynnly, Jadyn and Kambri Butcher, and Andrew, Isabelle, Emma, and Olivia Argyle. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Amandus and Andrew, husband of fifty-nine years, Ben, and her oldest son, Russel, whom she lost in the Vietnam War.
Funeral Services will be held in the Holladay United Church of Christ, 2631 East Murray Holladay Road (4800 South), on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. A viewing will be held a half hour prior to the services.
Following the funeral, there will be a luncheon at the Church.
