Frank Renner, a member of St. Pius X Parish in Northwest Portland, died Sept. 19. He was 86.Mr. Renner was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Glen Ullin, N.D.The Renner family moved to Oregon in 1930, and Frank graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem in 1939. He joined the Navy in 1939. During World War II, he served aboard the U.S.S. Chicago in the South Pacific and survived the sinking of the ship in January 1943.He later saw combat action as part of the D-Day invasion fleet on June 6, 1944, serving on a sub chaser.He worked for the Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in the 1980s.In addition to his parents, Frank was pre-deceased by his sisters Rose Renner, Eva Grim, Mary Matschiner; brothers Anton, Albert, and Jacob. Survivors include his widow, Lola, sons Dean and David; brothers Joseph and George of Salem, Tom of Vancouver, Wash., and Ollie of Tualatin.A committal service has been held at Willamette National Cemetery.
