RACINE - Mr. Anthony T. "Tony" Garner, 78, died at his residence on Tuesday, May 11, 2004.
A lifelong resident of Racine, Tony was born on February 6, 1926, to the late George and Evelyn Hopkins Garner. On June 14, 1947, he married the former Adeline M. Perman in Holy Communion Lutheran Church.
He served his nation with the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam during World War II. Tony started his construction career with Stanley-Matson as an Apprentice Plasterer. He retired from Bukacek Construction in 1986 after 20 years of employment. He served as a Business Agent and former President of Local #428 Cement Finishers and Plasterers for over 10 years.
He was a hard-working man that always put his family first. He never passed a child without giving them attention. He loved helping his children with any home repairs or projects. His construction and overall knowledge was a source of guidance throughout his family's life. He was truly a "master" of all trades. His comfort and guidance will be missed by all who knew him. Tony could always be seen walking his three miles a day, seven days a week, at Regency Mall.
In addition to his wife, Adeline Garner of almost 57 years, his survivors include his children, Edward (Linda) Garner of Racine, Donna Garner of Converse, Texas, Mark Garner, Shelley (Mario) Molina, Roberta (Mark) McPherson, all of Racine, and Joseph (Sonia) Garner of York, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Caroline) Garner; brothers-in-law, August (Katherine) Perman, Otto (Grace) Perman, Raymond (Delores) Perman, and Vernon Malik; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Bernard) Loughan and Vivian Garner, all of Racine; and many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Tony was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
His Funeral service will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, May 14, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Roberto McGlinn and Deacon Roberto Fuentes (Joseph's father-in-law) officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to meet in the funeral home this Thursday evening for a visitation from 6 until 8 p.m.
Tony's family wishes to thank Dr. David Zablotney for the kind care and compassion given to him during his illness.
