He was born to Jacob and Emma Diede Froehlich, he graduated from McClusky High School in 1948 and went on to graduate from Mayville University with a degree in Education. He later go a Masters Degree at Colorado State University in Greeley.
Robert was inducted in to the Marine Corps in 1952 and served in Korea until 1953.
He married Arlys Meyer in 1954 in North Dakota, they were parents of three children. The family moved to Rapid City in 1963 he worked first and Vandenburg School and at Douglas Middle School with young adults and staff. He was a big part of the movement to create a Middle Schools in South Dakota
He was honored by having the Douglas Middle School library named for him.
In retirement he enjoyed golf and watching College basketball in March Madness.
He had a lake house on Angostura Lake and very much enjoyed spending time there with his family and friends.

RAPID CITY | Robert J. Froehlich, 84, died peacefully at his home on Friday, June 19, 2015.
Bob was born Oct. 19, 1930, to Jacob and Emma (Diede) Froehlich in McClusky, ND. He was raised in the area, graduating from McClusky High School in 1948. Bob graduated from Mayville University with a Bachelor Degree in Education. He went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Colorado State in Greeley.
Bob joined the Unites States Marine Corps on Dec. 12, 1951, and served in Korea as a Sgt., Honorably Discharged on Dec. 9, 1953.
He married Arlys Meyer on Nov. 25, 1954, in Elgin, ND. To this union three daughters were born: Roberta Hamlet (Larry), Rapid City, and their two children, Larryka and her daughter, Caitlin, Rapid City, and Emmie and her children, Gavin and Addison, Rapid City, Robin, who died in infancy, and Raven Haberstroh (Scott) and their children, Robert McCreery and Kendra Brooks (Robert).
They moved to Rapid City in 1939.
Bob loved working with the young adults and staff at Vandenburg School. Mr. Froehlich was the principal for 30 years, happily serving his last year at Douglas Middle School before retiring. He was instrumental in bringing the concept of middle schools to South Dakota.
Mr. Froehlich was humbled by having the school library named the Robert J. Froehlich Library in honor of him.
Bob enjoyed serving on the board of the Teachers/Highmark Federal Credit Union for 30 years.
Bob loved retired life — golfing, watching college basketball and March Madness. He had wonderful times visiting South Padre Island in Texas.
More than anything, he enjoyed spending time at the Angostura Lake house with family and friends.
Bob is also survived by his brother, Tim Froehlich (Carol), Washington State; sisters, Mabel Tkach, McClusky, ND, Pat Stahalnacker (Chuck), Montana; and special sister-in-law, Jaqueline Froehlich, Devils Lake, ND.
Memorial services will be held at a future date at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
