Luella V. “Lou” Dresen, 88, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Sunday morning, June 1, 2014 at her home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Inurnment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church and Palmer Hospice. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com
Luella Verna Bietz was born on July 15, 1925 in Kaylor, South Dakota, the daughter of George & Justina (Nuss) Bietz. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church at Kaylor. Lou received her education at a country school near Kaylor and she later graduated from South Dakota Beauty School in Sioux Falls. Lou was united in marriage to Albert Peter Dresen on May 6, 1946 in Pipestone, Minnesota. They lived in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota until moving to Oelwein in 1973. Lou was a homemaker and three children were born to this union, Tom, Nancy and Tim. Lou was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was an active volunteer. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, knitting, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren.
Lou is survived by her Husband: Al Dresen of Oelwein; Daughter: Nancy Fritz of Faribault, Minnesota; Son: Tim Dresen (special friend: Cindy Rima) of Oelwein; 5 Grandchildren: Kristen (Antonio) Walley of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Joe Fritz of Faribault, Minnesota, Elizabeth Fritz (special friend: Pat McDonald) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Karlee Dresen of Oelwein & T.J. (Ashley) Jackson of Cedar Rapids; 1 Great Granddaughter: Olivia Mae Walley; 2 Brothers: Leo Bietz of Maryville, Washington & Eugene (Ella) Bietz of Scotland, South Dakota; 2 Sisters: Olive Voll of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota & LoRane Dresen of Redding, California; Sister-In-Law: Bev (Dan) McComb of Utah and Many Nieces & Nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, son: Thomas on November 14, 2009 and a brother: Alvin.
