Magdalena "Maggie" Hellman, 83, 1506 First Ave.N.W., Mandan, died July 30, 1997, in a Bismarck
hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin, at 3 p.m. Saturday. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Friday. A Women of the Moose ritual will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a parish vigil will be held at 7:30, also at the funeral home.
Magdalena ``Maggie'' Hopfauf was born March 13, 1914, to Stanley and Emilia (Leingang) Hopfauf, at
Fallon. The oldest of 16 children, she was raised on a farm near Fallon. She lived there until her marriage to Jacob Hellman, Oct. 26, 1932, in Fallon. They lived on a farm south of Glen Ullin, where eight children were born to them. Her husband died in 1972 after 40 years of marriage. They had lived in Glen Ullin briefly before his death. She moved to Mandan in March of 1973, where she has resided since. Some of her hobbies include playing an instrument in the Liberty Heights Kitchen Band and embroidering. Up to this time she has probably completed about 75 sets of dish towels and numerous sets of pillow cases. She loved to bake and enjoyed sharing her baked goods with her family and friends. Maggie was a member of Golden Age Services, Kitchen Band since 1976, and Tops Club North Dakota, which has been one of her greatest pleasures since she has lived in Mandan. The friends she made there were a source of great joy and inspiration to her. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, Women of the Moose, Women of the Eagles, RSVP Volunteers since 1976 and Christian Mothers of St. Joseph Church, Glen Ullin.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Irene, Mandan, Art and Pauline, Glen Ullin, and Terry and Lyvon, Mandan; five daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Jack Doll, Flasher, Lorraine and Tony Schirado, Glen Ullin, Lillian and Leo Johs, Jamestown, Jan and Roger Bond, Mandan, and Mary Ann and Mike Adams, Sibley, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six sisters and one brother-in-law, Catherine Erhardt, Mandan, Rose Boehl, Flasher, Genevieve Eckroth, Flasher, Frances Bohl, Mandan, Agnes Eckroth, Bismarck, and Clem and Gene Volk, Bismarck; four brothers and
sisters-in-law, Tony and Frances, Mandan, Leo and Josephine, Glendive, Mont., Florian and Georgia,
Culbertson, Mont., and Ralph and Katherine, Mandan; and one brother-in-law, Adam J. Emter,
Wickenburg, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters; one brother; and three grandsons.
