Clara Bender, 90, of Hibbing, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at the Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1915, to Jacob and Mary (Loak) Bettger in Wells County, N.D., She attended school in Rockford, N.D. She worked for Jon Bettger as a housekeeper until her marriage to Ruben Bender on Oct. 24, 1935, in McClusky, N.D. They resided there until moving to Tuttle, N.D., and Clarrisa, Minn., and settled in Hibbing in 1956. She had a very full life raising her 10 children and grandchildren. She loved her flowers, gardening, all animals and her family. She was a resident of Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center for the last few years of her life. Her family would like to thank the staff for their care of her and her husband who still resides.
Survivors include husband of 71 years, Ruben Bender; daughters: Leona (Pete) Faucett of North Fork, Calif., Betty (Robert) Anderson of Lincoln, Neb., Pearl Krueger of St. Cloud, Alvina (William) Tinsley of Superior, Wis., Linda (Darryl) Anderson of Hibbing; sons: Orville (Betty) Bender of Superior, Jacob (Camie) Bender of Springfield, Miss., Wilfred Bender of Hibbing, Duane (Nancy) Bender of Hibbing, Richard (Beverly) Bender of Superior; sister, Margaret Johnson of Washburn, N.D.; brother, Evener Bettger of Washburn, N.D.; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Jacob Bettger; two sisters, Freida Mayer and Esther Bettger and grandson, Dennis Bender.
Funeral: Will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Range Funeral Home, Hibbing. Officiating will be Maj. Jon Fjellman.
Visitation: Will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, and will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
Burial: Will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorials: Preferred to Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center, 1500 East Third Avenue, Hibbing, or Salvation Army Youth Center, 107 West Howard Street, Hibbing.
Arrangements are with the Range Funeral Home, Hibbing.
