ADAMS -- The funeral for Donald Vincent Landherr will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, with the Rev. James Seitz officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams, with American Legion Post 146 in charge of military rites. Mr. Landherr, 81, of Adams, died Wednesday (Aug. 16, 2006) at Adams Health Care Center. Born Feb. 5, 1925, in Nevada Township, Mower County, he attended Adams High School. During World War II, he served in the Army and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, serving with the General Headquarters Far East Command as a mechanic and driver for the officers. He returned to Adams and began his career as the "millman" for the Schissel Bros. Elevator, later part of the Stacyville Co-op Co. He retired in 1990. He was also the bartender at the Adams American Legion for many years. On July 20, 1950, he married Irene Laufle at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Post 146 and Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 VFW in Austin. Survivo rs include three sons, Tom of Byron, Chuck (Cindy) of Rochester and Mark of Adams; two daughters, Sue (Brent) Lunde of Austin and Deb Landherr of Kasson; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; three brothers, Gerald of Austin, and Jerome "Slim" (LaVonne) and Herbert "PeeWee", both of Adams; and three sisters, Jane (LaVerne) Felten and Joan Landherr, both of Austin, and Dorothy (Jerry) Gerber of Adams. He was preceded in death by his wife in May 2006, an infant daughter, an infant son and a sister. Visitat ion will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Adams Funeral Home, with a 5 p.m. rosary service and a 7 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
