JOHN BROST DIED AT DUBUQUE, IA MONDAY P.M
Lived Here Many Years--was Civil War Veteran; Funeral Held at Dubuque This Morning.
Word was received here by relatives, Monday afternoon, announcing the death on the day of John Brost, in St. Francis Home at Dubuque,IA. The message also stated that his funeral will be held in that city Thursday morning of this week and burial beside his wife, who died in St. Francis Home, about two months ago.
Mr. Brost was well known in this community, having lived here many years. His departure will be greatly regretted by many of our people.
Mr. Brost leaves three daughters; Mrs. Hillard Ganser of Stacyville, Mrs.John Jasper of Bovey, MN; and Sister Mary Stella of St Mary's parochial schoolin Dubuque, IA; six sons, Joseph of Milwaukee,WI, Lambert of Stratford,WI,John
of Canby, MN, George of Walker, MN,Matt of North Saint Paul,MN, and Anton of St Paul, MN.

JOHN BROST IS TAKEN MONDAY; CIVIL WAR VET
John Brost died Monday afternoon at 3 oclock at St. Francis home following a brief illness.
He was born in Johnsburg, WI, March 26,1846 and had been a resident of Dubuque for the last eight years. Surviving him are three daughters; Mrs.Hillard Ganser of Staceyville, IA, Mrs. John Jasper of Bovey, MN and Sister
Mary Stella, of the Order of St. Francis of St. Mary's school, also six sons;Joseph of Milwaukee,Lambert of Stratford, WI, John of Canby, MN, George of Walker,MN,Matt of North St. Paul,MN and Anton of St. Paul. His wife died two months ago.
Mr. Brost was a Civil War veteran serving with Company K Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry-he was a member of Hyde Clark Post, G.A.R.
The funeral will be held Thursday morning from St. Francis home. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 8 oclock. Burial will be made in Mt.Calvary. New Hampton

John Brost, died at St. Francis Home, Dubuque, Iowa, on October 22, 1923 at 2:00pm. Mr. Brost was born at Johnsburg, Wisconsin on March 26,1846. At this place he spent all his years until the Civil War broke out. He then enlisted and served in the Co. K. 35th Wisconsin Voluntary Infantry until the end of the war.
On July 16, 1867, he was married to Katherine Brumm at Fond du Lac,Wisconsin. Seven years were spent there. They then moved to Stacyville,Iowa, being amongst the pioneer settlers, there they remained for thirty years. They then retired from active life and spent one year in traveling.
After this, they settled at New Hampton, Iowa, where they lived for eleven years. Seven years ago last September, they moved to St. Francis Home in Dubuque, Iowa where he and his wife lived their declining years in comfort and
contentment. Mrs. Brost preceded him by death less than two months before. He was gradually failing since she passed away and while he did not complain, it was plainly seen that he was constantly pining and mourning for the one who had been his devoted helpmate for so many years. Six years ago last July, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Ten children were born into this union; nine of who are living, and one having died at the age of five years.
In his younger days, Mr. Brost was a blacksmith by trade. Later on, he became affiliated with the International Harvester Co. and for years, he was a most efficient salesman and mechanic. His territory reached through Iowa and the Dakotas. He also owned and maintained one of the best farms in Mitchell County. He was a hard working man, never tiring of labor, a good provider for his family, whose welfare he kept constantly before him.
He was a member of Hyde Clark Post G.A.R. Dubuque, Iowa, whose large flag draped his casket after death and during the impressive funeral services. The services were conducted by Father Nable of St. Francis Home, assisted by
Monsignor Herr of Dubuque. At the lowering of the casket, the bugle call was sounded for the last time for one who in life was ever true and loyal to God and to his country. His six sons acted as pallbearers.
He was sick but a few days and his daughter, Sister M. Stella, was the only member of his family at his bedside when death came. The rest of the children all arrived home after death.
He leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, three daughters and six sons; Joseph of Milwaukee, Lambert of Stratford, Wisconsin, Mrs. Hillard Ganser (Anna) of Stacyville,Iowa, John of Canby, Minnesota, George of Walker, Minnesota, Mrs. John Jasper (Julia) of Bovey, Minnesota, Sister M. Stella (Rosa) of Dubuque, Iowa; Matt of North St. Paul, Minnesota and Anton of St Paul, Minnesota.
Mr. Brost was of a noble character, honest, upright and fair in all dealings. Anyone in need of help always found a helping hand through him. His remains were laid to rest on Thursday, October 25, 1923, besides that of his wife in beautiful Mt. Calvary cemetery, at Dubuque, Iowa.
