- [S927] Obituary.
Carolyn Bullinger, 81, Bismarck, died Sept. 23, 2014, at Sanford Health Care Center off Collins, Mandan, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 26, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Carolyn Regina was born on Nov. 16, 1932, to George and Rose (Haider) Leingang. She attended St. Anthony School until eighth grade. She lived and worked with her many siblings on a farm located 25 miles south of Mandan until 1952. That year she married the love of her life, Richard Bullinger, and they lived on a farm nearby. Richard and Carolyn enjoyed many beautiful years on their farm, working hard and raising their four children, MaryAnn, George, Brenda and Pamela. Carolyn was involved in many church activities, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, and Homemakers. Richard and Carolyn enjoyed many hours dancing and belonged to a square dance group. In 1992, they sold their farm homestead and moved to Bismarck.
She enjoyed her retirement years and often was seen driving her little red Oldsmobile to meet friends and family for coffee. She also had a part-time job wallpapering, which she enjoyed. In 2009, Carolyn had a stroke which enabled her not to do many things she truly enjoyed. They sold their house and moved into a condo, where Richard and Carolyn enjoyed their last years together.
Carolyn will be fondly remembered for many beautiful talents she had. Carolyn loved to cook for large groups. She was known for her delicious overnight buns, her famous apple pie, and her best yet, German potato salad. One of her greatest enjoyments was baking for her family. At Christmas time she would fill her children’s’ homes with baked goodies. Her pfeffernusse cookies were loved by all. When one of her children or grandchildren had a wedding she would bake for weeks, often baking more than needed. Her greatest pastime was embroidering and every Christmas everyone received a set of beautiful embroidered dishtowels.
Carolyn will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, patient and loving person. She never complained and enjoyed life no matter what life brought to her. Everyone loved her for her quick wit. She was a beautiful woman and always wanted to look her best. Always ready to help anyone in need. Carolyn’s number one priority was her family and their happiness. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, and they could do no wrong in her eyes. They were her “special angels.”
We will all miss her love and laughter. She was the strength that kept our family together. Her love for God was strong, often seen with a rosary in her hand.
Carolyn will be deeply missed by her husband, Richard; her four children: one son, George (Renee), and three daughters, MaryAnn (Rod) Friesz, Brenda (Sid) Miller and Pamela Thomas; her grandchildren, Melissa Friesz, Ryan (Natalie) Friesz, Sarah (Ryan) Holzer, Amy Friesz and her friend, Jake, Jessica (Tyler) Beckler, Rocky Bullinger and his friend, Brittany, Casey (Heidi) Miller, Dustin (Jenny) Miller, and Brandon and Dillion Thomas; her great-grandchildren, Caydence Kahl, Allyson and Noah Holzer, Brynn and Bennett Friesz, Harlee Kleinjan, Isabella and Brody Beckler, Mya Miller and Hadley Miller; her sisters, Helen (Bill) Kuntz, Laura (Richard) Wycarus and Eldean (Bill) Fitterer; her brothers, Frank (Eileen) Leingang, Raymond (Nell) Leingang, Arnold (Georgianne) Leingang, Leo Leingang, Bob (MaryAnn) Leingang and Ronald (Betty) Leingang; her brothers-in-law, George (Sharon) Bullinger and John (Marilyn) Bullinger; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
