Edward Fitterer, 92, Glen Ullin, died Sunday, January 9, 2005 while a resident of the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. CT at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Reverend Sebastian Schmidt OSB as celebrant. Burial was held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin.
Edward was born March 27, 1912 in the St. Joe area, rural Glen Ullin, the son of Adam A. and Marianna (Gartner) Fitterer. He was raised and educated in the St. Joe area. He married Mathilda Hoerner November 15, 1938 at St. Joseph Church, rural Glen Ullin. Following their marriage they rented several farms in the area until 1951 when they purchased the John Schatz farm near Glen Ullin. Having a farm so close to town made it easy for Ed and Tillie to be involved in community and church activities. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, a former Glen Ullin Lion, the St. Joe Men?s Society and was the Morton County field man for Farm Service Agency. The two were busy as they operated the farm and raised their family. A highlight in his life was the seven years he played the part of St. Peter in the annual passion play. They retired in 1974 and leased the farm to Ernie and sold it to him in 1980. Ed enjoyed old time music, kidding around with just about everyone he met and being a life long Yankee fan. He and his wife were always ready for a game of cards or to go to a dance, they enjoyed visiting and being with people. They moved to the Marian Manor Estates in May of 1999. Ed entered the health care center in February of 2003 where he died Sunday, January 9, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Tillie, Glen Ullin, five daughters and four sons including Lorreta (Quentin) Stockert, Bismarck, Marlene Fitterer, Bismarck, Mary Jane (John) Herz, Grand Forks, ND, Beverly (Gerald) Duppong, Bismarck and Bonita (Douglas) Quast, Mandan and Ernest (Mary Ann), Glen Ullin, Robert (Sally), Aurora, CO and Jerome (Bernadette), Bismarck. He also leaves 28 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Michael Fitterer, Bismarck and one sister, Anna Fitterer, Bismarck. Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and seven brothers. Spangelo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
