Philip's father, Andrew, in 1833, had a contract to purchase Lot 27, Concession 1, Ellice Township, Perth County. Upon his death in 1844, this property was willed to Philip and was deeded to him in 1853. A carpenter, Philip built a 1 1/2-storey frame home here. In 1863, Philip got the contract to build the white frame church that replaced the original log church that was 1st St. John's Lutheran, Seebach's Hill. In 1866, Philip gave this farm to all his children, but his son John gave each of his siblings a mortgage and sold the farm to Louis Barthel. Louis then hung onto the property for six years and sold it back to John in 1872. John sold to William Suhring in 1874.
