Melvin Alt
Gridley -- Melvin D. alt, 76, of Las Vegas, Nev., since 1959, formerly of Gridley died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1992 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.
Born Oct. 21, 1915, in Fairbury to William and Mary Voelpel Alt, he married Ida L. Kaupp on June 4, 1939, in Peoria. She died March 3, 1991. He also was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary J. Toleno of Las Vegas; three sisters, Lucille Partridge of Morton, Inez Alt of Elkhart, Ind., and Bernice Lehman of Burbank, Calif.; four brothers, Edward of Rochester, Elmer of Rankin, Dayton of Washington and Raymond of Salem, Ore.; and two grandsons.
He was a self-employed carpenter in central Illinois for several years, and later worked as a carpenter and brick mason in Salem, Oreg., and a brick and block mason in Las Vegas until retiring in 1981. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Froelich Memorial Home in Gridley, and also one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Gridley Cemetery.
