Frieda (Bender) Weisz January 27, 2008 Aberdeen - The funeral service for Frieda (Bender) Weisz, 90, of 2222 Third Ave. S.E., Aberdeen, will be at 11 a.m. on her 91st birthday, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1732 S. Main St. The Reverend Tanya Rist will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Frieda passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Visitation is 1-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with family present from 5-7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church. Frieda Bender was born Jan. 29, 1917, in Ashley, N.D., to George and Philipina (Rueb) Bender. She attended elementary school in rural Ashley, N.D. Frieda married Herbert J. Weisz on Oct. 6, 1935, at Salem Lutheran Church near Hosmer, S.D. They farmed for 13 years on the family farm. In 1948, they moved to Leola and lived there until they moved to Aberdeen in 1966. Frieda was employed at the Holiday Inn in Aberdeen until she retired in 1990. She then became a Foster Grandparent where she displayed her love for children for many years. Frieda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Frieda enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. She also liked gardening, cooking and baking. Grateful for having shared Frieda's life are her son, Clifford (Loretta) Weisz, of Auburn, Wash.; two daughters, Lorentina (Leo) Rogers, of Plymouth, Minn., and Donna Lantgen, of Arvada, Colo.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Bender. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1992, her parents, nine brothers and three sisters.
