Devoted and extraordinary mother, wife, and friend, Berdyne Floren, passed away on June 24, 2011 at home with her daughters Randee, Kristie, Robin, Holly, and Heidi near her side after a long and valiant struggle with cancer.
Berdyne was born March 7, 1926 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She married accordionist Myron Floren on August 19, 1945. They moved to California in 1951 when Myron joined the Lawrence Welk orchestra. Berdyne was an accomplished artist, seamstress, and homemaker.
She loved reading and inspired us to enjoy learning and to use our imaginations. She made our home warm, comfortable, and welcoming to everyone. She was a lifelong advocate for positive thinking and believed in equal rights for everyone.
Berdyne enjoyed contributing to her family's successes and felt genuine joy for our accomplishments. She was known for her kindness, hospitality, and generosity. We all aspire to become as gracious, accepting and strong in heart as Berdyne. She was a gentle soul with a strong spirit; and Berdyne will be greatly missed.
Berdyne is survived by her five daughters, three sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, two 1/2 great-grandchildren, and her sister Betty Hanson of Arroyo Grande, California and family.
Per her request there are no funeral services. There will be a memorial gathering in her honor for family and friends at Christmastime.
