Edwin Koerner, 90
December 26, 1914 - April 13, 2005
Funeral services for Edwin Koerner were held Monday, April 18, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at Riverview Park Reformed Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Rodney Veldhuizen officiating.
Burial was made in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton, with Wintz and Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were David Koerner, Jared Skarin, David Just, Dan Marostica, Dave Moore, and Wayne Rames.
Edwin was born December 26, 1914, near Bridgewater to Frederick and Carolina Koerner. He was baptized on March 28, 1915, in the Hope Reformed Church, Emery, and was later confirmed on June 22, 1930. He grew up on a farm near Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater High School on May 17, 1934. He attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls for a short time and then moved back home to help his dad on the farm. For a few years, he also worked at the Shanard Elevator in Bridgewater as a bookkeeper.
On November 24, 1950, he married Agnes Buchholz at Avon. After their marriage, they farmed near Emery, and later moved to Avon. Due to health reasons, he moved to Yankton in 1965. He worked at various jobs as a custodian until he retired from Kolberg Manufacturing in 1980. He was a member of Riverview Park Reformed Church.
He died Wednesday, April 13, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, at the age of 90 years.
He is survived by one son and wife, Raymond and Laurie Koerner, Yankton; two daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Dave Moore, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Marlene and Wayne Rames, Yankton; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one step great-grandson; and one sister, Beatrice Koerner, Bridgewater.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes, on September 18, 2001; one son, William Koerner; six brothers; and four sisters.
