Dianne Kiesz officiating. Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion, Eureka and Aberdeen. Raymond died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005 at Loveland.
Raymond Doerr was born on April 2, 1922 to Fred and Katherine (Job) Doerr northeast of Eureka, S.D. He attended country school and worked on the family farm. On June 25, 1944 he married Velma Burrer. He entered the U. S. Army in March 1945 and received his training at Camp Livingston, La. He was assigned to the 5264th Quarter Master Truck Company. His unit departed Fort Lewis, Wash. to serve in Okinawa. He received his honorable discharge in June 1946. For several years Raymond worked as a truck driver for the Eureka Distributing Company. In 1961, the family relocated to Lodi, Calif. where the Guild Winery employed him until his retirement in 1984. He and Velma moved to Loveland, Colo. in 1992 to be closer to their family.
While in California, Raymond was a member of the Zion Reformed Church, Dakota Club, Eagles and Moose Lodge. Most recently he was a member of the First Congregational Church in Loveland. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Unit 22 of Lodi, Calif. and a member of the Fred Weller American Legion Post 186 of Eureka.
Raymond enjoyed woodworking, especially building and re-building old birdhouses. He was an avid Colorado Rockies baseball fan and when his health permitted, each summer he and other members of the family would make it a point to attend several Rockies games.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife: Velma Doerr; his son: Dennis (Betty) Doerr, Loveland, Colo.; and two grandsons: Chad (Katie) Doerr and their daughter Ella Grace Doerr of Loveland, Colo., and Brandon Doerr, Fort Collins, Colo.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Julius Doerr and sister Hilda Mettler.
