Otto H. Mettler
Sioux Falls -- Otto H. Mettler, 82, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Eureka, Long Lake and Aberdeen, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his home.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.
Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Aberdeen. George Boom Funeral Home of Sioux Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be present from 7 to 8 tonight.
Otto Henry Mettler was born Feb. 17, 1918, to Henry V. and Albina (Kusler) Mettler on a farm near Eureka. He grew up and received his education in country schools near Eureka.
He married Erma A. Schmitt on Oct. 6, 1940, in Long Lake. They farmed near Eureka until 1945, when they purchased the Long Lake Recreation Parlor. They operated their business until 1953, when they moved to Aberdeen. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for Nash-Finch. After a disabling injury in 1974, he retired from Nash-Finch. In 1975, he moved to Sioux Falls.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and was a former member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge in Aberdeen.
In earlier years he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Margie (Russell) Thompson of Sioux Falls, and Patricia (Konney Larwood) Mettler of Omaha, Neb.; one son, Gerald (Diana) Mettler of Canton; one brother, Rueben Mettler of Eureka; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
