Rachel was born on Aug. 20, 1913, at Ripley, Okla., to Franklin and Ocal Boyd Rardin. She was raised in Oklahoma and in 1930 moved to Fairfield, Calif., with her family. She worked with her family in the fruit orchards and loved the outdoors and sunshine. A young handsome man, Ervin 'Sam' Johnson, whom she had met in Oklahoma, followed her to California, where they began a marriage that lasted 63 years until Sam passed away in 1995. From California, they moved on to Oregon and then to Idaho in 1949. Rachel stayed busy raising four children, gardening and always spending lots of time with family and friends. Rachel never learned to drive so she was always happy when each of her children reached the driving age so they could take her places. She had a special love for all children and always welcomed all of them to her home. No one ever left her home hungry, as she enjoyed cooking for everyone. Rachel became a member of the Caldwell Church of Christ many years ago and had a lot of good friends from the church who were always willing to give her a ride to church or wherever she needed to go. She really appreciated their help and loved them all. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Shirley Landers, a sister, Pauline Talbert and two brothers, Alvin Rardin and George Rardin. Rachel is survived by three of her children, Margie McGee of Long Beach, CA, Wanda (Jack) Dunn of Boise and Jim (Brenda) Johnson of Nampa; son-in-law Mel Landers of Caldwell; 15 grandchildren, Greg Clapton, David Clapton, Karma Dobrusky, Vicki McIntire, Beth Camero, Kathy Hayes, Mary McGee, Diane Atkinson, Donna Gabbitas, Dan Pierson, Julie Pierson, Brian Johnson, Gina Burns, Josh Johnson, Kris Johnson and their families including 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
