Vaughan Stoffel
Memorial services for Vaughan G. Stoffel, 71, Bremerton, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. He died Sunday at Messenger House Nursing Home on Bainbridge Island. Born August 16, 1915 in Saskatchewan, Canada, he moved to the United States at age 6 and was a naturalized citizen. He graduated from Bremerton High School and attended the College of Puget Sound, where he lettered 16 times in sports. With his brother, Gerald, he operated Stoffel Brothers Grocery on 15th Street and Wycoff Avenue for many years. He retired as a general foreman at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1972 after more than 30 years. In the late 1940s and early 1950s he was an active referee for football and basketball on the Olympic Peninsula. He was a former board member of Kitsap Golf and Country Club and enjoyed golf. Surviving are a son, Paul of Seabeck; two daughters, Judy Heggen of Auburn, King County and Jill Skogstad of Bremerton; a sister, Kathleen Augustyn of Bremerton; a brother, Gerald of Bremerton; and seven grandchildren. Inerment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Northgate Hospital and Health Center, 120 Northgate Plaza No. 345, Seattle, 98125.
