Stuart Raymond "Stu" Neuharth
Sioux Falls: Stuart Raymond Neuharth, 54, of Sioux Falls passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.
Stu was born in Leola, S.D., on Oct. 2, 1955, to parents Raymond E. Neuharth and Lorine (Hauck) Neuharth. He attended the Leola Public School and graduated in 1973. At age 5, Stu was selected to present roses to Governor Ben Reifel's wife. As a little league baseball player, Stu hit a grand slam home run in a televised baseball game in Aberdeen, S.D.
During his high school years, Stu was passionate about Teener/Legion baseball and football. Stu made All-Conference football league three years as well as Class A All-State football as a defensive and offensive tackle his senior year.
After graduating high school, Stu attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. He graduated in 1977, with a BS in business administration. Stu was active in the Wolves Club and crowned King of the Gyps in 1981.
After graduation, Stu began a career with State Farm Insurance in Aberdeen, S.D., from 1977-87. Stu was united in marriage to Karmen Liebelt in 1981. They had two children, Seth (1984) and Kadie (1986).
Stu became an agency manager and moved to Mitchell, S.D., from 1987-95. During his years in Mitchell, S.D., Stu was active in Exchange Club and TeamMakers for Dakota Wesleyan University. In 1996, Stu moved and had an agency in Sioux Falls, S.D. While living in Sioux Falls, Stu was active in the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Sioux Falls Cosmopolitan Club.
Achievements that he accomplished in his employment with State Farm include Silver Scroll/Millionaire Club Qualifier, National Quality Award, National Multi-Line Sales Award, National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisor, 2004 Golden Triangle Award and the Ambassador for Life Qualifier.
Stu's favorite hobbies were cooking, golfing, fishing, traveling and his yard/garden work. Spending time with family was of utmost importance to Stu, especially his two children; life partner, Linda Assid; and grandson, Dylan.
Stu is survived by his son, Seth (Becky) Neuharth, Sioux Falls; his daughter, Kadie Neuharth, Minnetonka, Minn.; his life partner, Linda Assid, Sioux Falls; his siblings, Dorothy Ketterling, Delaware, Ohio, Ruth Kessel, Lodi, Calif., Dwight Neuharth, Pierre, S.D., Kathy (Bryan) Hopf, Courtland, Minn., and Clark (Karen) Neuharth, Westmont, Ill.; his eight nieces and nephews.
He will also be missed by Linda Assid's family, Tony and Nancy, Jamie and Alan, James 'Pudge', Skeet and Julie; and two grandsons, Dylan and Tony.
Stu was preceded in death by both parents; one brother, Charles Ray; one sister, Amy Terry; and two brothers-in-law, Dick Ketterling and Harvey Kessel.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorials in Stu's name be sent to the Northern State University Athletic Department in Aberdeen, S.D., and the Food Bank in Sioux Falls, S.D.
A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held at the Miller Funeral Home at 13th and Main on Thursday, April 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.
