STANLEY DEAN McGAW
October 15, 1951 ~ May 15, 2011
Stan McGaw, 59, born the youngest of three boys to Roy and Doreen (Kapp) McGaw in Kansas City, MO. He attended Peter Ogden, Lewis Junior High and graduated from Hudson's Bay High in 1969.
In his younger years, Stan was known to race his car on Lower River Road. Stan was good at auto mechanics, but his true talent was in auto body and painting. Stan worked at various jobs, including several years in the Extrusion Mill at ALCOA. But, by the time he reached the age of 30, he had established his own very successful business, "Stan's Auto Body", which he continued to operate until his health no longer allowed it. He also co-owned a trucking business, "Stan's Trucking", with his brother, Bob, for years.
Stan was a true entrepreneur who took pride in his meticulous workmanship, abilities and accomplishments. Stan enjoyed the 'toys' his successful business afforded him. Boating, water-skiing, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, shooting off fireworks, target practice, jogging, flying, skydiving, and cutting firewood were among his favorite activities - besides working on cars, of course! Stan loved his dogs and cats, restoring Corvettes, and most of all, hanging out with the guys in his shop. Stan's annual Christmas Eve Day Open Houses were notorious. He had a unique laugh that was contagious.
Survivors include his son, Jessie Dean McGaw; his wife, Cheryl McGaw; his brother, Robert (Sandra) McGaw; nieces, Lori McGaw, Toni Preston and Teri McGaw and their families; and special sister-in-law, Bonnie Ivy; his in-laws and many good friends.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Doreen (1976) and Roy (1987); his brother, John (2009); and step-mother, Jeannette.
Honoring Stan's wishes, there was no service. His ashes will be interned with his mother and brothers in Park Hill Cemetery.
Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Stan's Life, Sat., June 25, 2011 at Stan's house in Ridgefield, WA.
