- BIOGRAPHY: Dukart, Rochus J. and Rosa and Family by Jacob R. Dukart
Rochus J. (Bob) came to Canada from Landau, southern part of Russia in the year 1911. He was underage, and his father was not living any more, so he entered on his older brother Ralph's passport. He lived with his older brothers and sister, and worked for farmers in the Kingsford, Lampman and Bienfait areas. He also worked in the old Lampman Hotel, and one year in the city of Bismark, North Dakota at various jobs.
In 1921 he married Rosa Weiler, daughter of Martin and Catherine Weiler, who also came from Landau, Russia in the year 1903, and took up a homestead in the R.M. of Benson. Rochus and Rosa rented their first farm from Mr. Martin Dillman, which was located about seven miles northwest of Bienfait.
In 1929 they bought the East half of 23-3-7-2- and built up a new farm where they lived and farmed until they retired to 1305 Third Street, Estevan, where Rosa still lives.
Rochus was active in the Landau country church, and served on the Kingsford School Board, also became the Rural Councilor for Division four, R.M. No 5, Estevan in 1935, where he served until his death in 1967.
Rochus and Rosa have one son, Jacob R. who is married to Theresa Wanner. Their children are Barbara, Joan and Jane (twins), Donald, Carole, Duane, Lauretta, Kevin, Gregory and Audrey.
Their one daughter, Catherine is married to Joe M. Wanner, and their children are Patricia, Judith, Dennis, Tom and Bill.
