PRISCILLA SCHMITT OBITUARY Aberdeen: The funeral service for Priscilla Schmitt, 85, Aberdeen, will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Priscilla died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, with family present 5-7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. The family requests memorials be giving to Zion Lutheran Church or Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Priscilla Janae Schmitt was born Feb. 15, 1925, in rural Eureka to Jacob and Frieda Opp. She attended country school in McPherson County. Priscilla was united in marriage to Alvin G. Schmitt on Nov. 5, 1944, at the Gluerstal Church in McPherson County. Following their marriage, they farmed northwest of Long Lake, S.D., until 1954. The couple and family then moved to Aberdeen. Alvin died July 24, 1988. Priscilla was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active until a stroke forced her to take residence at a care center. She worked at Mother Joseph Manor, Mankeys Upholstery and did daycare in her home. She loved being with her family, especially spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters. She enjoyed embroidering, playing cards, gardening, eating out, dancing and reading prayer books and scriptures. She also loved baking and cooking. Grateful for having shared Priscilla's life are her son, Walter (Jean) Schmitt, Watertown, S.D.; daughter, Marilyn (Danny) Gibbs, Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Nicole (Jared) Nelson, David Schmitt, Rochelle Gibbs, Sunnie (Mike) Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Colby and Olivia Nelson, Madeline Schmitt, Haley and Kai Sanchez; siblings, Gilbert Opp, Eureka, Hilmer (Genevieve) Opp, Minneapolis, Lorraine (Howard) Mettler, Eureka, Milo (Arlene) Opp, Aberdeen, Lawrence (Flo) Opp, Sioux Falls, Reinhold (Diane) Opp, Brainerd, Harry (Carol) Opp, Underwood, Minn., Gloria Gilbert, Rapid City, and Geraldine (Gary) Schnabel, Yankton.
