Haas, 87, of Belleville , Ill. , born May 20, 1918 , in St. Clair County, Ill., died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 , at St. Elizabethbs Hospital, Belleville. B Mr. Haas served St. Clair County for over 40 years in various capacities, including deputy sheriff and assistant treasurer.B He was also elected County Treasurer for multiple terms, serving until his retirement in 1994. In addition to his political career, Paul and his wife Rita co-owned and managed the Town House Motel in downtown Belleville for 20 years. He was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish and St. Peterbs Cathedral Parish, where he served as an usher for over 20 years. Paul was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Belleville Council 1028. He was a member of the St. Clair County Democratic Party; the Illinois Treasurers Association; and the Catholic War Veterans Post 370. Mr. Haas was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. B He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Catherine, nee Reeb, Haas; two sisters, Irene Mueller and Florence Dahm; brother-in-laws, Albert Eros and Floyd Mueller; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Haas. B He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita C.
