Magdaline Langer, 84, of Spearfish passed away on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 with Father Timothy Hoag and Deacon Bob Stockert as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. A memorial has been established to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Magdaline (Stockert) Langer was born on Sept. 3, 1926 on the family farm by a midwife, at Amidon, N.D., to Raphael and Eleanor (Frank) Stockert. She attended a country school where one teacher had all eight grades. She attended high school one year at Scranton.
She met, dated and then married Anton Langer on Oct. 1, 1946 at the Catholic Church at Amidon. They moved on his father's small farm at Amidon, where they raised six children. The high school at Amidon had burned down so when it was time for the oldest to go to school they sold the farm and moved to Spearfish where Anton's parents lived. They rented a place until our dad built a house.
Maggie first job was at Margie's Supper Club at night. She was allergic to the grease and smoke and had to find a different job. She applied at Dorsett and in two days she was hired to head housekeeping. After a few months she was promoted to activities.
When the new Hickory House was built, they needed a head of housekeeping so she was hired at the Hickery House. When she had to have surgery she retired after 23 years.
Her hobbies were making quilts for her grandchildren, and handmade rugs for the family. She also made many rosaries for the church and missionaries. She also volunteered at church functions and at the Passion Play.
She joined the Happy Times Band. The joy of her life was her children, playing cards and family get togethers. Her faith and church were very important to her.
Maggie is survived by her six children, Roger (Kathleen) Langer, of Denver, Colo.; Ron (Linda) Langer, of Spearfish; Jerry (Jane) Langer, of Spearfish; Allan (Susan) Langer, of Sioux Falls; Sharon (Tim) Toavs, of Spearfish; Ray (Patty) Langer of Elko, Nev.; 13 grandchildren Roger (Mona), Jason (Holly), Jessica, Nicole, Kelly, Stacy, Christopher , Anton Jr., Mark, Amy, Austine, Angela and Samuel; 11 great-grandchildren Bethany, Ryan, Jordan, Alex, Mateo, Mario, Danielle, Dustin, Trenton, Mason and Ely; three brothers, Van (Rose) Stockert, of Steel, N.D.; Henry (Leona) Stockert, of Minnesota; Deacon Bob (Josie) Stockert, of Dickinson, N.D.; two sisters, Clem (Lawrence) Urlacher, of Bowman, N.D.; and Agnes (Fred) Reichert, of Billings, Mont. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anton; a son, Daniel at 5 months old; brother, Roger Stockert at 4 months old, and many nieces and nephews.
