EROME • Magdalena Dolores “Madge” Stefanatz, 95, of Jerome, passed away Friday May 16, 2014, in Twin Falls.
She was born March 29, 1919, in Dickinson, N.D., the seventh of 15 children born to Nicodemus and Frances Wock Kuntz. She was raised in Dickinson and attended schools there. She met Tony Stefanatz at a dude ranch in Montana and they were married Jan. 31, 1939. They had three daughters. Tony passed away April 22, 1951. Madge continued raising their daughters and earned a master’s degree in education. They settled in Jerome where Madge taught fifth grade for 37 years. Madge was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and served in many different capacities. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading and especially traveling. She visited many places including several trips to the Holy Land. Madge will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend and teacher. Hundreds of Jerome kids can name all of the states and their capitals, because of Mrs. Stefanatz.
Madge is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Bill) Houk of Lumberton, N.J., Fay (Vince) Williams of Twin Falls and Louise (Larry) Slatter of Jerome; four grandchildren, Susan, Tony, Barry and Tiffany; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Breana, Reese, Trey and Reid; two sisters, Veronica Gayda and Adaline Hushka; one brother, Stanley Kuntz; and many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony Stefanatz; and 11 siblings.
A vigil with rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 216 Second Ave. E. in Jerome. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, also at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome. Madge’s family suggests that
