Magdalen Garnier, 92, Bismarck, died April 12, 2004, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Magdalen "Cookie" Garnier was born Dec. 9, 1911, to Jacob and Barbara (Yantzer) Koch in Yucca, N.D. She graduated from high school in 1932. She married Charles Garnier on Dec. 29, 1933, in Bismarck.
Magdalen enjoyed fishing, quilting, gardening, playing cards, dancing, baking, and her 29 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was active in church and civic affairs, and she enjoyed working with groups of all ages.
Magdalen is survived by her daughters, Carol (John) Schaff, Billings, Mont., Bernadine (Jim) Clark, Trumbull, Conn., Judith (Lyle) Gallagher, Bismarck, Devera (Fred) Clausen, Woodenville, Wash., Barbara (Bob) Hughes, Dickinson, and Nadine Garnier, Redmond, Wash.; her son, Harold (Elizabeth) Garnier, Fargo; her brother, Russell Koch; her sister, Arlene (Anton) Steiner; and her brother-in-law, Edwin Dietzman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her daughter, Janice and her husband, Edward Ehrmantraut; her brother, Christ; her sister, Margaret Dietzman; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Koch and Marie Koch; her brother-in-law, Jim Clark; and her great-grandson, Chad Bushman.
Magdalen's family prefers memorials to St. Alexius Hospice, 1120 East Main Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58501.
