Christensen, 98, died at the Pocahontas Community Hospital on June 27, 2016. Lucille Alene Saathoff was born June 19, 1918, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Maude (Dragoo) Saathoff. She graduated from Hayes Consolidated High School in 1935 and went on to earn her teachers certificate from Buena Vista College. She taught grade school at Brooke Consolidated School for two years where she met her future husband Marvin. On September 19, 1942, Lucille married Marvin Christensen at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. In 1950, Marvin and Lucille settled in Gilmore City where Marvin taught Vocational Agriculture and Lucy was a homemaker. In 2010, they moved to Arlington Place in Pocahontas, IA. Marvin passed away in 2012 and Lucy continued to reside at Arlington Place. Lucille was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gilmore City. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing the organ. She will be very much missed. Survived include her daughters, Marcia (Carl) and Judy; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Cindy. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; sons, Edgar and Larry; brothers, Clayton and Alan Saathoff; sister, Margaret Cook; a grandson, James Porter and infant great-granddaughter, Lucy Porter.
