  [S927] Obituary. Lorentine Walz, 81, of Yankton, formerly of Menno died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital in Scotland, SD. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Dave Lund officiating. Burial will be in the Menno City Cemetery, Menno, SD at approximately 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from to 3 - 9 pm at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, SD with a scripture service at 7 pm. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Kevin Walz, Jerry Fischer, Bill Fischer, Don Fischer, Jim Mehlhaff and Jack Mehlhaff. Honorary pallbearers will be all her nieces and nephews. Lorentine Karoline (Fischer) Walz was born on August 19, 1925 on a farmstead south of Menno, SD to Fred and Martha (Guericke) Fischer in Hutchinson County. Lorentine was one of eight children born to Fred and Martha. She was baptized on Oct. 11, 1925 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menno, SD by Rev. O. Bruntsch. She renewed her baptismal covenant by rite of Confirmation on Sept. 10, 1939 by Rev. Paul Bunge. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:7. "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him, fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of man who bringth wicked devices to pass." Lorentine attended school in Hutchinson County through the 8th grade. On May 3, 1953 she was joined in holy wedlock to Erwin Walz at Grace Lutheran Church in Menno by Rev. E.A. Bishoff. No children were born to this union. They farmed in the Menno community until November 1961 when they moved to Oregon where they became members of Zion Lutheran Church, a country church at Cornelius, Oregon. In 1969 they moved back to Menno and joined Immanuel Lutheran Church. After Erwin's death she moved to Yankton and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and later became a resident at the Menno Olivet Care Center in Menno. Lorentine is survived by 7 brothers and sisters, Ernest Fischer of Menno, Olga (Ruben) Mehlhaff of Tripp, SD, Marie (Clinton) Mehlhaff of Scotland, SD, Helmuth (Ruby) Fischer of Scotland, SD, Hildegard (Marvin) Mehlhaff of Yankton, SD, Gebhardt (Marcella) of Menno, SD, Bertha (Alton) Mettler of Menno, SD; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
