Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Lester Alan Haas, 62, of Ashley will be Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church at Ashley. Military Honor Guard by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53. The Rev. Kyle Reinhiller will officiate.
Burial will be 1 pm Monday, January 29, 2007 at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at Mandan, ND with The Rev. Ross Reinhiller officiating.
He died January 22, 2007 at his home.
Lester Alan Haas, son of Alan and Ruth (Bertsch) Haas was born December 11, 1944 at Eureka, SD. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Venturia, ND. He graduated from Ashley High School with the Class of 1962. He then attended the University of North Dakota at Ellendale earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in History with a minor in Music. In 1966, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. Following his honorable discharge in August of 1968, he returned to North Dakota.
He was united in marriage to Marvel Emma Dalke on June 7, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. They made their home in Bismarck for one year while Marvel attended hairstyling college. They then returned to Ashley where Lester taught school for four years. The call of farming was to be his life's work as he then took over the operation of the family farm.
Lester enjoyed following politics and watching CNN. He collected antique tractors. He also made sure he traded cars every couple of years.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Ashley Community Quartet and a past Ashley Public School Bus Driver and past Executive Director of Ashley Housing Authority.
Survivors include his wife of Ashley, his parents of Ashley, one daughter, Lisa (Lyle) Miller of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, three sons, Corey (Erin) Haas of Jamestown and Bradley Haas and Justin Haas, both of Fargo, one sister, Candace (Darvin) Fischer of Ashley and one granddaughter, Kristin Haas.
Honorary Casketbearers will be members and spouses of the Ashley Community Quartet, Oscar (Joan) Rau, Adolph (Doreen) Rueb, Milbert (Lavilla) Dollinger and Jim (Donna) Heupel.
Casketbearers will be Rory Fischer, Eric Krueger, Jerry Steinmetz, Gary G. Hoffman, Tim Joachim and Jeremy St. Aubin.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley have been entrusted with arrangements.
