Leo R. Hoff, 90, Richardton, died Thursday, March 18, at St. Benedicts Health Center, Dickinson. Leos Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Richardton, with Father Boniface Muggli, OSB, as the celebrant and Abbot Brian Wangler, OSB, as con-celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the church with a rosary and vigil at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Leo Rochus Hoff was born July 12, 1919, in Richardton, the son of Rochus and Frances (Derzaph) Hoff. He was raised and educated on the farm six miles south of Richardton. Leo worked in the Washington area for a year prior to moving back to Richardton.
Leo married Barbara Eleanor Messer on June 15, 1943, and they made their home five miles south of Richardton. To this union there were eight children born. Leo spent many years farming and milking cows and later he worked at the Richardton Public School for 10 years. Leo and Eleanor built their retirement home in 1980 and continued to farm until 2007. During this time he also became a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Leo is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of 66 years; their seven children: JoAnn (Wally) Hoselton, Red Lake Falls, Minn.; Sharon (Leonard) Schaefer, Vancouver, Wash.; Gerald (Koleen Wilmes) Hoff, Richardton; Ambrose (Charlotte Hauck) Hoff, Richardton; Rita (Leo) Schaefer, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; Jeffrey Hoff, Richardton; and Lucas (Jolene Boehm) Hoff, Richardton; 34 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona; and one half-sister, Diane. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Lee Senn; a brother, Ervin; a sister, Ann; 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Carol; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
