  BIOGRAPHY: Ted White white@sbri.org Farmer and cooper Birkenhoerdt, near Bad Bergzabern, in the Rheinland- Pfalz area of Germany, is the ancestral home of Balthasar Seibert (b. 1 Feb 1816) and Margaretha Wegman Seibert (b. March 1816). They married 25 May 1846 in Birkenhoerdt. Elisabeth Seibert (later Huntley) was b. 13 November 1846. This information is known to us through matching the names and birth dates of family members with information from the Catholic Church in Birkenhoerdt, which information has been transcribed and entered into the computerized records of the LDS (Mormon) Church. These records and the family connections may be confirmed on line at www.FamilySearch.comAccording to the records of FamilySearch, Balthasar Seibert had 3 brothers and sisters: Jacob b. 20 March 1819; Elisabetha Catharina b. 3 Jan 1824; and Antonius b. 16 September 1826. Jacob may have married Anna Maria Emanuel, 17 Feb 1846; he is believed to have gone to the DuQuoin, IL area at an unknown date with wife and family. It is uncertain what became of the other brother and sister. The lack of information about the sister, and the fact that her name was assigned to Balthasar's first child, leads me to theorize she may have died as an infant. Margaretha Wegman was one of 10 children; much information is available at www.FamilySearch. com.The Balthasar Seibert family emigrated to the U. S. either in 1849 (probable) or 1850, to Rochester, NY. There is an entry on the 1850 census which may belong to them (names may be misspelled), along with a possible brother of Margaretha Wegman named Andrew (Andreas) Wegman. Elisabeth is the only child known to have been born in Germany; her baptismal record is available. Her sister Emma, born either in NY or possibly in Germany, died as an infant, and is said to be buried in New York. Katherine Seibert was born in Rochester, NY in 1852, and Mary Seibert in Illinois in c. 1858. The Seiberts moved from NY to IL some time between 1852 and 1858, and spent most of their time either in or around DuQuoin, IL or Belleville, IL.Much additional information about the Seiberts and Wegmans in Germany is available through www. Casper M.B. Seibert died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Huntley, in this city, February 9, 1901, at the age of 86 years and 8 days. Deceased being a devout Catholic from birth, the Rev. Father Schulte conducted religious service at the Huntley residence Sunday afternoon, after which the interment took place at Little Prarie [sic] Cemetery. The Rev. John [?] Seore [?] comforted the bereaved ones. Mr. Seibert was born near the Rhine, in Germany, February 1 [?], 1815. He was raised in that country and at the age of 30 [?] years he married Miss Margaret Weyman [sic]. To them four children were born, of whom three survive, these being Mrs. Huntley, Mrs. John Farmer, Richview, Ills., and Mrs. T. Adam, Beaucoup, Ills. Mr. Seibert followed farming in Germany but in 1849 he, with his family, crossed the ocean and located at Rochester, N.Y., where he learned the cooper's trade, at which he worked as long as his strength permitted. He formerly lived at Belleville, Ills., but twelve years ago he came to this city, where Mrs. Seibert died ten years ago.
