JOHN BARRETT WILKINS, SR., age 88, went into the arms of Jesus on July 19, 2010. John was born January 9, 1922 in Washington, Louisiana to Robert Dunbar Wilkins and Eugenia Poulet Wilkins.He was preceded in his death by his parents and sister, Barbara Alexander. He is survived by his loving wife LaRee, son John Barrett Wilkins, Jr., daughter Debbie Lightfoot, Gloria Byars, grandson John Brennan Wilkins and granddaughter Skyler Lightfoot and numerous relatives and friends.After graduating from high school in Opelousas, Louisiana, John served in the army during World War II. In 1947 he married his sweetheart for life LaRee May. They celebrated 63 years together.He was a member of Braeswood Assembly of God Church. John had a long and distinguished career in the home furnishings industry which he loved with a passion. Twenty years of that time he was owner of Wilkins Furniture in Houston where he was beloved by clients and employees alike. He possessed a charm and loving personality that is seldom seen. His Louisiana accent was unforgettable.
