Hiram "Van" David VANNET Died August 16, 2002, in Seattle of a heart attack. He was born August 26, 1917 in Franklin, Golden Valley County, MT to David H. and Emma Neuharth Vannet. He grew up in Pasco, WA and upon graduation from Pasco High in 1935, joined the Civil Conversation Corps (CCC) for two years. He started working for the Northern Pacific Railway in 1940 in Pasco; and after the merger, continued working for the Burlington Northern. He retired as Senior Accountant and Chief Clerk in 1977. He lived in Walla Walla from 1942 until 1969; Spokane from 1969 until 1971; and has resided in Seattle since 1971. He married Elizabeth Ann Walter Nov. 30, 1946 in Walla Walla. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his son, David H. Vannet of Indianola, WA; a sister, Flossie C. Bardell of Lake Forest Park, WA; and a brother, Leonard O. Vannet, of Rome, Italy, as well a ton of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of the Burlington Northern Vets, NW Senior Citizens, Independent Order of Foresters, and a 60-year member of the Transportation Communications International Union. He was a gardener, fisherman, traveler, keno master, political commentator and a union man. His intelligence, insights, goodness and gentleness will be missed. No service is planned.
