Helen Rachel Walter Reed Helen Rachel Walter Reed, 89, of Zion, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. She was born October 31, 1919 in Mattoon, IL to James and Kathryn (nee Seiler) McWilliams. She graduated from Mattoon High School and was employed for a number of years as a supervisor in the Radiology Department of Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan before retiring. Helen is survived by her husband, Milton Omer Reed; daughter, Carol (Michael) Magden of Waukegan; sons, Gordon (Heidi) Walter of St. Charles, MO and Gregg (Kathy) Walter of Winthrop Harbor, IL; step-son, John (Sandy) Reed of Niles, MI; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Jean) McWilliams of Longwood, FL and Glenn (LuElla) McWilliams of Champaign, IL. She was married to William J. Walter for 43 years, who preceded her in death in 1984. Helen was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan for many years, serving in numerous capacities. Her personal talents included being an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress. But relationships were a particular passion, and Helen savored her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, 122 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. Waukegan, followed by funeral service at 3:00 P.M. Private interment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville. Memorial contributions can be directed to First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
