Dr. Glen Ralph Anderson passed away December 30, 2014 in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was 88.
Glen was born January 24, 1926 in Bolivar, Missouri to Ezra Vivian and Mary Lucinda (nee Neuhart) Anderson. After graduating from Bolivar High School, Glen earned an A.A. degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, a B.S. in Teacher Education from Missouri State University in Springfield, an M.S. from Drury College in Springfield, a Specialist in Education from University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, and was granted a Doctorate Degree in Education from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Glen married Bernice Isabel Lawson on March 17, 1951 in Bolivar, Missouri. Glen served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. Both Mr. and Mrs. Anderson lived and taught school in Bolivar until 1967 when they moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma to allow Mr. Anderson to work toward an Ed.D specializing in reading education. In 1968, the Andersons relocated to Warrensburg, Missouri where Dr. Anderson was a Professor of Education at the University of Central Missouri for 17 years, retiring in 1986. From 1987-2001 Dr. Anderson served as a teacher, administrator, and grant writer in Many Farms, Arizona located on the Navajo Reservation.
Dr. Anderson was a passionate and dedicated educator who was well liked by his students. He wrote a number of published articles on the topic of reading education and served as editor of the International Reading Association Journal, Missouri Council.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ezra Vivian Anderson (11 May 1974) mother, Mary Lucinda Neuhart Anderson (24 January 1970), brother, Harold Gene Anderson (19 December 1937), his wife, Bernice Isabel (10 November 2007) and his sister, Dorothy E. Anderson Roberts (8 May 1998).
Dr. Anderson is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gayle G. and Candace Anderson of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; his son and daughter-in-law Joey C. and Julia Anderson of Warrensburg, Missouri; his daughter Jane A. Anderson of Sedalia, Missouri; six grandchildren; Elizabeth Anderson Sherrer and grand-son-in-law SFC Robert C. Sherrer of Fort Meade, MD, Nicholas B. Anderson of St. Charles, MO., Jacob A. Anderson of Lees Summit, MO., Joshua A. Anderson of Tampa, FL., Jessica A. McReynolds, Sedalia, MO., Christopher A. Anderson of Warrensburg, MO., and five great-grandchildren; Kaylee R. Sherrer, Ian A. Sherrer, Colton M. Sherrer, Reagan A. Sherrer, and Jaxon Couch.
Funeral services for Dr. Glen Anderson will be held 12:00 PM Monday, January 5, 2015 at Murray Funeral Home in Bolivar officiated by Rev. Danny Vance. Burial will immediately follow at Salem Cemetery near Cliquot, Missouri with military honors. A visitation will be held from 11 to 12 prior to the funeral service.
