Place, 88, of Indian Mound, died Tuesday (April 23, 1991) at the home of his step-daughter with whom he and his wife had made their home in the past year. Mr. Place was an over-the-road trucker for CCC Trucking in Marietta for many years and later employed with Farmers Exchange Lumberyard and Mill in Carrollton until he retired. He was born Aug. 20, 1902, in Decatur Township, to Crayton and Altha Mellon Place. He was a graduate of Belpre High School. Mr. Place is survived by his wife, Thelma Caddes of Beloit; two sons, George Jr. of Highland, California and Carl of Carrolton; and one daughter, Carol Puckett of Carolton; one brother, Forrest of Little Hocking, one sister, Hazel Schram of Marietta; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Mathers Place, one brother and four sisters. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Allman-Dugeer Funeral Home in Carolton. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the services.
