Ferrel Hendershot Jr.
CAMBRIDGE CITY -- Ferrel Hendershot Jr., 83, of Cambridge City, Ind., died on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 2, 1922, in Bartholomew County, Ind., a son of the late Ferrel Hendershot and Cora Burkhart Hendershot and lived in the Cambridge City area for the past 56 years.
He was a World War II Air Force veteran and served in England.
He had been employed at Rex and Stant's in Connersville, Ind. Ferrel owned his own truck which he drove transporting grain and produce for 56 years until he retired. He worked also as a stone mason and put the stone on many churches in the Cambridge City area including Cambridge City First Church of the Nazarene, which he also helped build.
Ferrel was a member for 56 years of the Cambridge City Nazarene Church and also a member of the Leroy Tout American Legion Post #338 of Dublin, Ind.
Besides his wife of 59 years, Hasseltine Halcomb Hendershot, whom he married on June 28, 1946, at Brookville, Ind., he is survived by three daughters, Judy (husband Gary) Hamm, Lisa (husband Brad) Lewellen; and Rhonda Lewis, all of Cambridge City, Ind.; two sons, Loren "Butch" Hendershot of Cambridge City, Ind., and Douglas (wife Ona) Hendershot of Crab Orchard, Ky.; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herschel Hendershot of Brown County, Ind., and Rev. Albert Hendershot of Bloomington, Ind.; two sisters, Nadine West of Brown County, Ind., and Buleah "Boots" Dowden of Columbus, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Ferrel was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Virgil, Ival, Robert and Basil; three sisters, Evelyn, Wilma and Beryl; and one grandson, Bradley Lewellen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin with Rev. Darrell Bertram and Pastor Steve Clark officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin with military graveside rites by American Legion Post #169 of Cambridge City. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, and prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
