Equilla Florence Duley, 95, of Moulton, died May 9, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
She was born the daughter of Alonzo and Cordelia (Ellison) Morrison on Feb. 5, 1916, in Roy, Mo. She graduated from Moulton High School in 1935 and would later attend both Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo., to get her teaching degree. She would also continue her education while living in California for a time.
She was first united in marriage to Roy Marvin in Centerville in 1936; then on Sept. 20, 1947, Equilla was united in marriage to Charles Ralph Duley in Centerville. She was a school teacher for a time, worked as a clerk for the Hy-Vee Store in Centerville and was also involved in real estate sales and worked for the Department of Water Resources while living in California. When she returned to Appanoose County, she worked as a social worker for a time. She was a very active member of the Moulton United Methodist Church where she served as vice-president of the women’s club, the Royal Neighbors, Community Betterment, Lions Club and American Legion Auxiliary, all in Moulton, and earlier she was one of the first woman members of Toastmasters International while in California. She enjoyed writing an occasional column in the Centerville Iowegian, Moulton Tribune and the Ottumwa Courier, entitled “Living In A Small Town.”
She is preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Roy Marvin in 1942 and Charles Duley on Aug. 30, 1995.
She is survived by her sons, Ed Duley and his wife, Trish of Cave Creek, Ariz., Bob Duley and his wife Annette of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jim Marvin and his wife Gail of Salina, Kan.; a daughter, Ruth Hargrave and her husband John of Moulton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; half sisters, Barbara Heartley of Kingman, Ariz., and Kathleen Carlson of Vancouver, Wash.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Moulton United Methodist Church in Moulton with Rev. Jim Schweizer officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset View Cemetery north of Moulton.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6-7 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton.
Memorials can be made to either the Garrett Memorial Library or to the Moulton First Responders and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
