Text: Obituaries – The Sounder, Random Lake, WI, Page 8, Aug. 22, 2002 Elizabeth ?Betty? J. Arendt Elizabeth ?Betty? J. Arendt, 47 of the Town of Sherman [N515 Lynn Rd., Random Lake] died Aug. 18th, 2002 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center after a courageous 18-month battle against cancer. She was born March 31, 1955, a daughter of Albert and Marie Thill of rural Random Lake. She attended St. Nicholas Grade School in Dacada and graduated from Random Lake High School in 1973. She also attended Lakeshore Technical College and Moraine Park Technical College. She had lived in Florida for two years and worked at the Kennedy Space Center for Hughes Aircraft Co. until the shuttle Challenger mishap in 1986. She married Sam Arendt on Aug. 20, 1995. Mrs. Arendt was a local artist and owner of ?Ornaments by Betty,? specializing in painting replicas of people?s homes. In 1993 her ornaments were displayed at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee. She also was co-owner of Silver Creek Studios, serving as photographer?s assistant. Betty and Sam operated Silver Creek Studios from the Thill family homestead east of Silver Creek. She excelled at pioneer skills such as cooking over a wood-burning stove and was an excellent woodchopper. However, she also mastered modern technology as a typesetter, systems analyst and computer repairperson at The Review newspaper in Plymouth, where she worked for 10 years. Mrs. Arendt was an avid gardener, cook, birder and total lover of life. She was known and loved by friends and family for her quick wit, sense of humor, robust laugh and willingness to be of help to all. She was a one-time national arm wrestling champion. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Amy Pardee; her mother, Marie Thill of Random Lake; her father– and mother-in-law, Vernon and Myra Arendt of Port Washington? three brothers, Albert of Hollywood, Fla., Jerry [Becky] of Richardson, Tex., and Vince [Barbara] of Random Lake; one sister, Laura [Chuck] Michell of Cocoa, Fla.; one brother-in-law Chris Arendt of Port Washington; 10 nieces and nephews and one grand-nephew; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Visitation will be Thurs., Aug. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Belgium. A memorial service in celebration of Betty?s life will follow at the Eernisse Funeral Home at 7 p.m., officiated by Fr. Guy Gurath. A private family burial service will take place at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Dacada.
