- Edwin S. Olivera of Algonquin The Mass of Christian Burial for Edwin S. Olivera, 77, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 410 N. First St., Cary, where there will be visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Ariel Valencia will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m., Friday, July 24, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Born Dec. 5, 1931, in New York City, he passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Mr. Olivera was the founder and former publisher of the Philippine Times newspaper and an avid photographer. Survivors include his wife, Violeta (nee Pancho), whom he married Jan. 6, 1961, in Chicago; sons, Edwin and Art (Karen) Olivera of Algonquin; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily Olivera of Algonquin; siblings, Feliza, Carol and Robert (Sandy) Olivera of Glendale Heights, Butch (Xenia) Olivera of Crystal Lake, and Douglas (Linda) and Frank (Remy) Olivera of Gardena, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Olivera was preceded in death by his parents, Roque and Elizabeth (nee Sigmund) Olivera. For information, 815-459-3411.
