D. Hugh Newhart D. Hugh Newhart, 91, of Reedy, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born and raised in Roane County, a son of the late William Roy and Flossie E. Anderson Newhart. He was retired from Columbia Gas with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Liverpool United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for years and was a lay speaker for the Methodist churches. He was a volunteer at Eldercare of Ripley, where he played guitar and sang for the patients twice a week for six years. He is survived by four daughters, Relda (Roy) Harris of Liverpool, Retha (Lewis) Higgins of Parkersburg, Rosa Lee (Richard) Enoch of Peewee, W.Va., and Roberta (Larry) Whiting of Stewart Draft, Va.; one son, Roy Newhart of Massillion, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; one brother, the Rev. Phillip Newhart of Parkersburg; one sister, Erma E. Parks of Parma Heights, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Marial L. Newhart; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby M. Newhart in 1996, after 54 years of marriage; one brother, William Paul Newhart; and a granddaughter. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Reedy. Visiting hours are from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
