  [S446] West Virginia Births. [S927] Obituary. Bevan C. Guthrie, 79, of Parkersburg died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Elra "Sky" and Goldie (Phillips) Guthrie. Bevan was a 1948 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He served in the military for 21 years and retired from the National Guard in 1968. He retired from DuPont after 37 years. He was a member of VFW Post 1212, an active member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of Worthington Golf Club and was president of Parkersburg NCO Club. He organized the 50th reunion for the Korean War Veterans of the 1092nd and designed the Korean Memorial that is located at City Park. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores (Brown) Guthrie; son, Mike Guthrie of Parkersburg; daughter and son-in-law, Becky Jo and Dan Nelson of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Heather, Jessica, Jason, Stoney and Bevan; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Charles Smith of Parkersburg; a sister-in-law, Vivian Guthrie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Denver Guthrie. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. at West Virginia National Cemetery with military honors by West Virginia Honor Guard and Grafton VFW. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
