DEATH Ambrose Schumacher Commissioner and Mrs. Leo Schumacher received the following let­ter in regard to the death of their son, Private Ambrose L. Schumacher, who was killed in action while serving with the U. S. Marine Corps on Iwo Jima on March 3rd. The letter follows: My Dear Mr. and Mrs. Schumacher: It is with deep feeling I write to you regarding your son, Ambrose L. Schumacher, D Co., 2nd Bn, 28th Marines, 5th Division, who paid the supreme sacrifice for his country. Until now I have been unable to write to you to express the deepest sympathy of our Company for your great loss. Of all the men of the Company that lived together, there was none more highly respected. He was always an example of courage and inspiration to the men of the Company. As Company Commander, I came to know the men both as soldiers and as personal friends. Your son proved himself a cap­able soldier and while moving for­ward was hit by shrapnel and in­stantly killed. His body was later buried in the 5th Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima. While I know my letter will be of little consolation in your grief, I do want to express the sincere sympathy of all your son's friends while serving in my Company. Very Sincerely 1st Lt. H. L.
