Bio: The funeral service for Allen Benford Zeller, 91, of Aberdeen, will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24. Allen died Friday, November 04, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, November 6, Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home Fellowship Hall. A prayer service will follow at 7 p.m.Allen was born September 22, 1920 to Otto and Lena (Johnson) Zeller in New Effington, SD. At a young age the family moved to the Aberdeen area where his father, Otto, owned and operated a gravel pit at Scatterwood Lake where Allen and his brother Kenny worked for several years. Allen's father, Otto, started a cinder block plant which eventually burned down. At that time Kenny and Allen started building houses and started Zeller Brothers Construction in 1956. Their signature homes are the stucco houses all over the Aberdeen area.Allen will always be remembered as a very loving and caring father who was always there to help even though he wasn't asked. Allen and Kenny continued in the construction industry until 1984 when the company was bought by Dave and Bruce Zeller.Some of Allen's passions were flying his 175 Cessna, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and creating memorable gifts for his children and grandchildren to cherish forever. He also enjoyed playing with his dogs at his work shop. In most recent years his greatest joys came from being near his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Allen was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Cooties in the VFW, the American Legion, and the Elks Lodge. He was a past leader in the Boy Scouts. Allen served in the 147th Field Artillery in WWII and fought in the Australia Campaign. Allen married Dorothy Glaser March 27, 1948 whom he loved and cherished until his passing.Allen and Dorothy have six loving children: Dave (Marian) Zeller of Aberdeen, Bonnie (Ken) Karst of Watertown, Diane (Chuck) Phillips of Andover, MN, Bruce (Rita) Zeller of Aberdeen, Gail (Doug) Stotz of Aberdeen, and Lynn (Todd) Hanson of Aberdeen, 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildrenAllen was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Lena, two brothers, Oscar and Kenneth, and two sisters, Esther Zeller and Thelma Bergman.The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers who took compassionate care of our dad and for all the concern and love shown to our family
