Adolph Henry Fred Schuetz was born on March 17, 1915. He was baptized on the 28th of March and his middle names come from his grandpa Fred Schwiering and his uncle Henry Schuetz. Adolph lived in Venedy all of his life. He owned a large pasture and, at one time, several horses. Later, Adolph filled this pasture with his junk as he was a packrat by nature. Except for the firewood that he burned, anything that entered his property stayed there.
Adolph was the Venedy Street Commissioner; he cut down limbs from trees that hung over the road and took them to be used as firewood. He had his nephew, Bruce Schuetz, help him split the wood during the entire summer of 1974 until they had enough to fill a very large room. Adolph thought about and was very dedicated to his job. He worked diligently in his community as Street Commissioner; his zone extended as far as Lively Grove. Nobody ran against him as everyone was very content with the man who kept their roads level, their trees trimmed, and their streets free of snow. He remained at this job until he could no longer take care of his community and retired.
He had a habit of using shoestrings as a substitute for other things, such as a shoestring for a watch fob. He also did not like to be photographed. Early in life, Adolph almost lost his leg in an old grain harvester when a friend accidently turned it on as Adolph stood near it. Fortunately, it only snagged his clothes and he was able to escape.
Adolph countered his mother Emelie's hold on fun by making sure that Lewis's children enjoyed themselves every once in a while. He would often bring them to Monroe's Tavern and buy them a soda.
Emelie must have told him to make sure that Shirley got her sewing machine after she died. This is true because when Lewis and Winnie had the auction to sell all of Emelie's things when she died, Adolph took that sewing machine away right under the auctioneer's nose. He proclaimed, "Mom wanted Shirley Ann to have this and by God she will!!!" And then he rolled it up the street all the way to his trailer and kept it for her until she could pick it up.
Adolph Schuetz never married nor had kids, although he was once engaged. When Adolph learned that being with this unknown fiancé meant he could not take care of his mother, Adolph broke off the engagement. Adolph was a man of honor and duty; he gave up his own love to take care of the mother who had sacrificed so much for him. Adolph died in Venedy on July 30, 1991.
