- [S927] Obituary.
The following is taken from Ruth Buchholtz? research on the Hiebs:
Balthasar Hieb, son of Christian and Katherina Grosz Hieb, was born December 14, 1882, in the Emanuel Creek vicinity not far from Tripp, South Dakota. He was wed to Lydia, also nee Hieb, January 18, 1906. She was the daughter of Christian and Magdalena (Neiffer) Hieb. (Both fathers were indeed named Christian Hieb.)
The couple farmed eleven miles southwest of Tripp for three years. During this time Arthur and Helmuth were born. The last part of October 1909, they moved to Kramer, North Dakota, where they purchase/d a farm. While living there, Edwin, Emma, and Alfred increased the size of their family. They came back to Tripp in October 1917 where they again farmed seven miles southwest of town.
On November 22, 1943, they moved into the town of Tripp, where Balthasar hoped to regain his health. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota, where he died April 23, 1944.
Lydia Hieb suffered from ill health for almost a year then underwent a heavy operation from which she seemed to have rallied. However, death came very suddenly as she sat at the supper table at the home of her son, Arthur, March 28, 1952.
